The Mill at Zehnder Park offers a stunning location in downtown Frankenmuth with river views, described as a luxury experience. However, recent reviews highlight significant operational issues, including malfunctioning amenities, unresponsive management, and a lack of attentiveness from certain staff members. While some guests praised the beautiful rooms and ambiance, concerns regarding service and proactive problem-solving were prevalent.
My stay at this beautiful new hotel was a mix of luxury and disappointing service. The property is stunning, with beautiful furnishings, an unbeatable downtown Frankenmuth location, and spectacular river views. The concierge, bartenders, and front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, several issues took away from what should have been a luxury experience, especially for a room costing around $1,200 for one night. First, I had to call to get a booking confirmation because their email system was not working. My bedroom fireplace didn't work, the in-room phone couldn't reach the front desk so I had to physically go to the front desk when I needed something, checkout was delayed by technical issues, and several amenities—including a complicated thermostat, confusing tea kettle, and lack of paper towels or an ice maker—were frustrating. However staff were helpful in providing a bag of ice when requested. My biggest disappointment was the lack of management response for the broken bedroom fireplace. Although staff attempted to fix the fireplace, no manager acknowledged the issue, apologized, or offered any gesture of goodwill. Another concern was the attitude of several male employees who appeared to work between the hotel and Zehnder's restaurant or offices. They regularly walked through the hotel wearing dress shirts, dress pants, and gold name tags. Whether passing through the lobby, walking by us at the bar, or making eye contact while looking toward our balcony, not one smiled, acknowledged us, or even said hello. The "technical guy" (one of those guys I mention above with the gold name plate) who came over from the resturant to fix the printer issues before checkout sat directly in my face, looked me in my eyes and did not speak, smile or acknowledge me what so ever. This was the last impression I was left with. Those small interactions matter and are part of what guests expect from a luxury hotel. When guests spend around $1,200 for one night at what is advertised as a luxury hotel, they expect amenities to function properly. If something significant is broken upon arrival, management should proactively make it right without requiring the guest to ask. That's what exceptional hospitality looks like. Always ensure every employee—regardless of department or position—acknowledges guests with a smile and a greeting. Those small moments create lasting impressions. This hotel has tremendous potential, and many of the operational issues will likely improve over time. However, luxury isn't just about the building—it's about the service. I hope management places greater emphasis on guest recognition and proactively addressing problems when they arise. I want to also mention that they nickel and dime you by putting snacks in your room (which should be included in the price) and all of the snacks are at a cost. They do provide a tiny glass of champagne on arrival. This should be a bottle in your room and not a tiny glass. Nonsensical! My incidental deposit (of $150) was returned timely. However after seeing my review, management STILL didn't reach out to me or offer anything to make this right. The message management wrote below my review is for future guests and to APPEAR concerned. Not even the offer of a free chicken dinner the next time I'm in Frankenmuth. VERY unfortunate and disappointing from what they label as a "luxury high end" hotel. It's not high end behavior or treatment. Therefore I have updated my review to 3 star. I'm sure that management will update their comment below as well. I wish all future guests a better stay.
Absolutely incredible hotel experience. Gorgeous rooms with views of the river and walking distance to anything you want to do downtown. Awesome speakeasy bar downstairs as well. Great job and I can't wait to stay here again.
Had an amazing stay. Room 1856 was like something out of a movie, the view from the balcony was beautiful and the sound of the rushing water from the river made me sleep like a baby. The room was set up perfectly and very clean. The showers and soaking tub were a godsend. The lounge below the hotel has a kinda speak easy vibe that’s very comfortable, and the drinks are top notch. Paige the supervisor personally came over and had a great conversation with us. 10/10 I would highly recommend booking a stay here you will be highly satisfied.
An amazingly beautiful boutique hotel right in downtown Frankenmuth. I stayed in Suite 1848 and it's spacious, gorgeous and lovely. A must see hotel!
Can’t wait to see what it’s like when it’s finished.
